Shakib retained to Kolkata Knight Riders team for IPL 2017

Both the players from Bangladesh to have played in the 9th season, Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman have been retained by their respective teams Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Ahead of the 10th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), eight franchises had to release the players they were no longer interested in keeping. After the deadline for the release of the players expired on December 15, as many as 40 players have got the axe from their respective franchises.

Shakib Al Hasan’s team Kolkata Knight Riders has given West Indies captain, Jason Holder the boot. They have also released John Hastings (Australia), Colin Munro (New Zealand) and Morne Morkel (South Africa). Defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad have let go local players in Ashish Reddy and T Suman. Also Eoin Morgan who is the captain of England’s ODI squad has got the axe. But quite naturally, they have made no mistake to retain their most valuable player Mustafizur Rahman for the next season. Rising Pune Supergiants which made its debut last season, made the highest number of releases allowing players like Ishant Sharma, Irfan Pathan and Murugan Ashwin to go.

Another new team Gujarat Lions too have let go a number of players, as they have decided to do away with Dale Steyn along with a bunch of local players. Delhi Daredevils have decided to release Pawan Negi, who was a big purchase in the previous season, but could not do justice to the price tag. Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore the other two teams are also believed to have sacked a few players but there was no reliable information available to confirm the same. The 10th season of the world’s most popular franchise-based cricket league is likely to start from the 5th of April, a week after the conclusion of the series between India and Australia.
