Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Round 8, Day 2 Report: Chhattisgarh lead by 56 in 1st innings against Services

Chhattisgarh finished Day 2 at 281 all out and have gained a healthy lead of 56 runs in the first innings of Round 8 encounter of the ongoing Ranji Trophy against Services. Services bowler, Diwesh Pathania had six scalps to his name. Manoj Singh top-scored with the bat with 67 runs to his name while Amandeep Khare also got a much needed fifty in the middle-order along with some useful contributions from Dhaliwal and Gupta as well. Chhattisgarh got off to a shaky start as they lost an early wicket in the form of Abhimanyu Chauhan for a duck. Sahil Gupta made a crucial 36 which was followed by Anupam Toppo’s 21. Amandeep Khare stood like a rock and played well for his fifty. Ashutosh Singh was undone by Pathania for 13 and so do Avnish Dhaliwal for 35. Avnish Dhaliwal also chipped in with some useful contributions in the middle.
Pathania bowled extremely well to scalp six wickets and broke the spine of Chhattisgarh batting. Vikas Yadav also chipped in with couple of wickets while Sachidanand Pandey, Raj Bahadur had one wicket apiece. Earlier, Services won the toss and elected to bat first. Nakul Verma got a fifty while opening the batting after which Vikas Hathwala contributed with a much-needed fifty. Most of their batsmen got good starts but failed to convert it into big scores. Sumit Ruikar claimed a fifer and whereas Abhimanyu Chauhan picked two to bundle out Services for 225. With a lead of 56 runs from the first innings, the momentum is certainly with Chhattisgarh.
