Bangladesh’s tour of Sri Lanka likely in February 2017

On June 19 in the directors’ committee meeting, Bangladesh’s
international and domestic calendar for the forthcoming
2016/17 season was approved. And as per the calendar,
Bangladesh are likely to travel Sri Lanka for a full bilateral
series in February next year...According to the calendar, Bangladesh are supposed to tour
India and play a one-off Test in the first week of February.
Then from February 8 to March 7, Bangladesh may have a tour
of Sri Lanka.
It has been learnt that the idea and proposal for hosting
Bangladesh during this period came from Sri Lanka Cricket
(SLC)’s part, and the BCB too was more than happy to have an
extra series out of the Future Tour Programme (FTP).
Sri Lanka are scheduled to return home from South Africa in
February. Then they will have no further series till the month of
May according to the current FTP.
Bangladesh too will have only the one-off Test in India from
during time period of January to April. In January they will
return from New Zealand, and then their next full bilateral
series will not come until April.

Board (BCB) and SLC had been looking to pin down another
series to fill in the void, and finally they came together for the
In the proposed series in February-March of next year, the two
teams may lock horns with each other for 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and
2 T20Is. With the fact that Sri Lanka are better ranked than
Bangladesh in all three formats, the Tigers could very much be
benefitted from the series.
In the mean time, apart from the proposed series early next
year, Bangladesh are already slated to host Sri Lanka for a
home series in January-February of 2018 as per the current
Now, with the proposed tour of Sri Lanka all but certain, there
is only one headache that’s bothering BCB at the moment, and
that’s the one-off Test in India.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to let
BCB know about a certain date for the match. So BCB is still
eagerly waiting for a message from the richest and most
powerful cricket board of the world, for they can finalize the
schedule of the Sri Lanka series only after getting a green
signal from BCCI.
